Meet four men whose lives intersect in a Writers Without Margins expressive writing workshop held at a prison reentry and addiction recovery program. Learn, from their own words, what led them to commit their crimes, and witness their ongoing stories during the most critical year determining their freedom and survival. Join us, with interviews and appearances by Boston Mayor Marty Walsh, Congressman Joe Kennedy III, Sheriff Michael Bellotti, Professor Randall Horton, Dr. Bertha Madras of Trump’s Commission on the Opiate Crisis, and more. In Their Shoes: Unheard Stories of Reentry & Recovery was created to amplify the disempowered and generally vilified populations in the drug crises – the easiest targets caught in the most difficult cycles. Our hopes were to not only inspire policy change and sentencing reform, but to promote public education regarding drug use and overdose prevention. Get to know the real people – surprisingly relatable, sometimes terrifying, and too often heartbreaking – who live silently behind today’s headlines in these untold stories.
