Our Programs

Empowering Voices, Shaping Stories

At Writers Without Margins, we offer a range of programs designed to support and nurture writers from marginalized communities. Through workshops, mentorship, and creative resources, we provide the tools and space for writers to develop their craft, share their stories, and connect with others. Our programs are built to foster creativity, encourage literary expression, and promote wellness for individuals and communities.

The Evidence

The landmark studies exhibiting the profound outcomes in physical, behavioral, and mental well-being first conducted and published by Dr. James Pennebaker, at the University of Texas in the 1980s, have since been replicated hundreds of times in therapeutic, psychological, social work, and medical communities.

A variety of publications have highlighted the positive research on expressive writing. For example, the Harvard Business Review, published an extensive piece, titled "Writing Can Help Us Heal from Trauma" on the dramatic impacts of writing to increase resilience and decrease depressive symptoms. Additionally, the New York Times more recently published,"Using Writing Shows Promise for PTSD," about a JAMA study showing that expressive writing was equally as effective as conventional therapy.

Because this multi-disciplinary approach to physical and emotional health has been recognized as a more effective, holistic, and sustainable method, we work to provide thoughtful and creative collaborations to meet each partner's and participant's goals.
